Today's Bible Study
In 1992, Josh Kezer was wrongfully convicted of killing a 19-year-old girl in Missouri. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Josh served 16 years of that sentence before friends and attorneys secured his exoneration and brought about his release.

Josh came to know Christ in prison, where he wrote praise songs and maintained a strong faith despite his horrible surroundings. He determined to forgive everyone who was responsible for the injustice he suffered. He now refers to himself as a “blessed, loved, and fortunate child of God.”

Josh was asked, “How were you able to forgive the people who committed this terrible wrong against you?”

He answered, “We do not always get to choose the path we travel in this life, but we do get to choose how we will travel that path.”

Josh Kezer’s faith strengthens my faith. His resolve to forgive inspires me to forgive. His challenge to choose how you will travel life’s path reminds me that I must involve my mind when making life’s decisions. I must not rely solely upon my feelings.

I can waste time plotting revenge and feel justified in doing that.

But in 1 Peter 4:1, the Apostle urges Christians to arm themselves with the attitude of Christ. Hebrews 12:2 reads: Jesus, for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Only a determined attitude of the mind enables us to choose wisely the way we walk this earthly path.
Today's Prayer
Lord, give me wisdom, please, and a determination to ignore feelings when they lead me the wrong way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Yesterday's Bible Study
HWhen our children were young, we often recorded movies and children’s television specials for them to watch. This was convenient and gave us the added feature of fast-forwarding through commercials.

Of course, the commercials were still recorded on the tape. So were news bulletins, weather alerts, and other messages that ran during the time we were recording.

Thus, when in the heat of August, we sat down to watch a movie taped in January, we were sometimes surprised when a printed message slid across the bottom of our screen warning us to expect from four to six inches of snowfall before midnight. Programs taped during thunderstorms were often interrupted to allow the National Weather Service to warn viewers of upcoming danger.

These warnings, though not real threats, scared our four-year-old son.

After several explanations of how taped recordings operate, he understood that the warnings were not for him. Soon he learned to grab the remote control and fast forward through them.

Many times, we are frightened by memories of past sins of which we have repented and for which we have been forgiven. Satan plants these thoughts, hoping to cause believers to doubt God’s promise to forgive. That doubt cripples us in our work for God.

I have learned in these situations to address Satan with these words: “Jesus has taken care of that matter. You’ll need to talk to Him about it.” Blessed truth!
Yesterday's Prayer
Lord, thank you for the forgiveness You gave me through Jesus. I didn’t earn forgiveness and can’t repay You for it. But I trust Your promises. Amen.
