Fewer and fewer items are designed to last today. My husband used the same razor for 35 years. My first washing machine functioned for 20 years. It used to be that phones lasted for several lifetimes.
Today many items have planned obsolescence built into them. Manufacturers design products to have short lives so consumers need to replace them sooner and more often.
Even things that are meant to last forever, like marriages and other commitments, many times do not.
This verse tells us that God’s love is everlasting. The same love God promised long ago to Jeremiah is still active today. Time has not weakened it or rendered it ineffective.
Nothing destroys the love God has for you and me. Time doesn’t. Even sin doesn’t. God is love. No one ever needs to fear that he or she has moved so far away from God that He has withdrawn His love.
Products fail. People disappoint us. The love of God goes on and on. God is the only One who can make and fulfill an everlasting promise.

| Oh, Lord, how can I thank you for your everlasting love? That kind of love exists in no one other than you. I have trouble even understanding it. Thank you for not basing your love for us upon our performance. None of us deserves such a gift. Thank you for loving us because love is Who You are. In Jesus name. Amen.
