Today's Bible Study |
I love this verse. I ask and
think about many things I wish would happen:
Conversions in the thousands. Celebrities coming to
know Jesus on live TV. Long lines of missionaries
waiting for assignments.
Amazingly, God has even bigger and better plans for
His kingdom than you or I have.
I remember in October 1997, when hundreds of
thousands of men known as Promise Keepers filled
the Mall in Washington, D.C. These men sang,
prayed, and shared messages aimed at achieving
spiritual unity.
I was thrilled as I watched this event on
television. I thought (and I prayed) that God would
be moved to show Himself in a mighty,
never-before-seen way. I pictured the sky opening
and God’s voice booming out to commend the
worshipers below.
What an opportunity you have here, God! I thought.
Well, I was probably as misguided as Peter was on
the Mount of Transfiguration when he suggested the
building of tabernacles for Moses, Elias, and Jesus
(Matthew 17).
Of course, God doesn’t need my help or yours. He
doesn’t ask us for suggestions.
Reading this verse in context tells me where my
place in God’s plan lies. I am to pray that I will
be filled with the fullness of God and will work to
bring glory to Christ throughout the world.
God uses His people as He sees best. I must trust
His wisdom and His timing.

"And such as do wickedly
against the covenant shall he corrupt by

Yesterday's Bible

When I started teaching, I
was blessed with many good teachers who have
become great friends. These friends listened to
me, helped me, and blessed me as I grew in
Christ.
One teacher gave me some simple advice when it
comes to teaching about God: Know your
audience. Know your subject. Know your God.
The Bible is full of stories of people who knew
their God and did great things. These include:
Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Daniel, David, Paul,
Peter, and John. Each stepped out in courage to
do amazing things.
I will not build an ark, tie my son to an
altar, save Israel from a famine, survive a
night in a den of lions, kill Goliath, make
missionary journeys to all parts of the world,
preach a powerful sermon on Pentecost, or see
visions from the Isle of Patmos.
But God has a plan for me. My exploits may be
more in the order of raising godly children,
showing Christian hospitality, teaching the
Cradle Roll class, and loving the people the
world rejects.
But God can take my efforts, however
insignificant they are, and multiply them to
serve His purpose. Don’t underestimate your
importance in the Kingdom.

Yesterday's Prayer |
|
Holy One, I praise You. I thank You for
Your grace and mercy at work in my life. I thank You for the
cross. Bless me that I will serve You and bless Your Holy Name.
Lord, lead me into all truth. Guide my footsteps that I may be
strong and do great exploits in Your Name, not for my glory,
but that Your message of grace may be proclaimed to the
nations. Amen.
