Today's Bible Study
My Bible has a heading at the top of each page. Among the headings in my Bible on the pages preceding this verse are these: Crossing the Red Sea, Bitter Waters Made Sweet, Quails and Manna Provided, and The Water from the Rock.

Scriptures on these pages declare God’s provision for the Israelites as they journeyed toward the Promised Land.

Then I turned back more pages and saw these headings: The Water Becomes Blood, The Plague of Frogs, The Swarms of Flies, The Plague of Boils, The Plague of Hail and Fire, The Plague of Locusts, and The Plague of Darkness.

These pages record God’s punishments poured out upon Egypt because it continued to keep His people in slavery.

In a conversation with Moses on Mount Sinai, God told Moses to remind the people of all these occurrences.

What a contrast exists between the curses God rained down upon the Egyptians and the blessings He poured out for the Israelites.

In Exodus 19:8, the Israelites vow: All that the Lord has spoken we will do.

On the next several pages of my Bible, God’s Law is recorded. But quickly I encounter a page with this heading: The Golden Calf.

How forgetful these people were! How ungrateful! But before I start casting stones, I need to examine my life. Do I see those unfavorable characteristics in my life? Do you see them in yours?
Today's Prayer
Father, remind us of Your great love demonstrated in the sacrifice of Your Son. Help us never to forget or become ungrateful. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Yesterday's Bible Study
I love this verse. I ask and think about many things I wish would happen: Conversions in the thousands. Celebrities coming to know Jesus on live TV. Long lines of missionaries waiting for assignments.

Amazingly, God has even bigger and better plans for His kingdom than you or I have.

I remember in October 1997, when hundreds of thousands of men known as Promise Keepers filled the Mall in Washington, D.C. These men sang, prayed, and shared messages aimed at achieving spiritual unity.

I was thrilled as I watched this event on television. I thought (and I prayed) that God would be moved to show Himself in a mighty, never-before-seen way. I pictured the sky opening and God’s voice booming out to commend the worshipers below.

What an opportunity you have here, God! I thought.

Well, I was probably as misguided as Peter was on the Mount of Transfiguration when he suggested the building of tabernacles for Moses, Elias, and Jesus (Matthew 17).

Of course, God doesn’t need my help or yours. He doesn’t ask us for suggestions. Reading this verse in context tells me where my place in God’s plan lies. I am to pray that I will be filled with the fullness of God and will work to bring glory to Christ throughout the world. God uses His people as He sees best. I must trust His wisdom and His timing.
Yesterday's Prayer
Father of love and grace, I thank You for my salvation. I pray that salvation may come to the masses around the world in Your time and in Your way. Fill me with Your fullness and lead me to bring glory to Christ with my life. Amen.
