Today's Bible Study
This book of Hebrews, whose authorship is unestablished, was written to Israelites, people who were known for their belief in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The original readers of this document were descendants of the patriarchs, prophets, kings, and other leaders (and ordinary people) whose stories are recorded in the Old Testament.

These Hebrews were proud of their heritage. They practiced Judaism, which was strict in its requirements. They, their parents, and grandparents had been trained to follow its laws, practice its rituals, observe its feasts, and hold unswervingly to its teaching.

When Jesus came on the scene, the Hebrews, for the most part, rejected Him. They were “dyed in the wool” Jews, who held on for dear life to the religion they practiced.

We can commend, even admire them for their great faith in God. But they had trouble giving up their old ways and accepting Jesus, Who was the fulfillment of God’s plan.

This writer encouraged the new believers in Jesus to stand fast, never wavering. Let this verse encourage you. Don’t look to any other program, cult, movement, or ism to offer you what God has offered: salvation through Jesus Christ.
Today's Prayer
Lord, we are inquisitive people who are attracted to new ideas. Help us to remember that salvation comes only through the Name of Jesus. Help me hold tightly to that truth. Amen.

Yesterday's Bible Verse
"Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself."

Yesterday's Bible Study
My Bible has a heading at the top of each page. Among the headings in my Bible on the pages preceding this verse are these: Crossing the Red Sea, Bitter Waters Made Sweet, Quails and Manna Provided, and The Water from the Rock.

Scriptures on these pages declare God’s provision for the Israelites as they journeyed toward the Promised Land.

Then I turned back more pages and saw these headings: The Water Becomes Blood, The Plague of Frogs, The Swarms of Flies, The Plague of Boils, The Plague of Hail and Fire, The Plague of Locusts, and The Plague of Darkness.

These pages record God’s punishments poured out upon Egypt because it continued to keep His people in slavery.

In a conversation with Moses on Mount Sinai, God told Moses to remind the people of all these occurrences.

What a contrast exists between the curses God rained down upon the Egyptians and the blessings He poured out for the Israelites.

In Exodus 19:8, the Israelites vow: All that the Lord has spoken we will do.

On the next several pages of my Bible, God’s Law is recorded. But quickly I encounter a page with this heading: The Golden Calf.

How forgetful these people were! How ungrateful! But before I start casting stones, I need to examine my life. Do I see those unfavorable characteristics in my life? Do you see them in yours?
Yesterday's Prayer
Father, remind us of Your great love demonstrated in the sacrifice of Your Son. Help us never to forget or become ungrateful. In Jesus Name, Amen.
