Today's Bible Study
I used to love playing hide-and-seek as a child. What fun it was to run and find a place to hide as a friend counted loudly. My heart raced as the countdown neared its end and I still had found no place to hide.

I also enjoyed the seeking, maybe even more than the hiding. I loved thinking about where my friends would hide and use my intuition to find them. I refused to stop looking for the hiders and call everyone in free.

God does not hide from us, but many times in Scripture we are urged to seek Him. Look at these “seeking” verses from Psalms:

Psalm 9:10—And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Psalm 14:2—The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

Psalm 63:1—O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

Do not be satisfied with only a cursory knowledge of God and His Word. Do not blindly accept the faith that was handed down to you by your parents or grandparents. Make your faith your own by studying the scriptures earnestly. Attend Bible studies and converse with your Christian friends about your faith. Pray for God’s guidance as you study. Ask for wisdom to discern the things you read.
Today's Prayer
Father, help my soul long for You and seek You as a deer pants for water. Lead me to understanding as I read Your Word. Help me to apply the Bible to my life, and use me to bring others into Your grace. Amen.

Yesterday's Bible Verse
"There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."
Joshua 1:5 King James Version (KJV)

Yesterday's Bible Study
Moses had died, and the Israelites were nearing the end of their period of mourning for him. God selected Joshua to succeed Moses as the Hebrews’ leader.

I would have been hesitant to take on leadership of this mass of grumbling travelers. They had tested Moses’ patience many times. They had even tested God’s patience.

Maybe that is why three times in the first chapter of Joshua, God admonished Joshua to be strong and courageous (verses 6, 7, 9).

In addition to His exhortation to Joshua to be strong and courageous, God commanded him to keep the law that had been given to Moses. Turn not from it to the right hand or to the left (Joshua 1:7).

Thirdly, God commanded, This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).

These were appropriate instructions to be given to a new leader. How blessed we would be if today’s leaders were strong and courageous; if they kept God’s law; and if they meditated day and night on the words of the Bible.

Each of us is a leader in some capacity. Whether we are parents, teachers, supervisors at work, or overseers of a county or district, we are to lead by word and example. As Christians in a leadership position, God will guide us and lead us to success if we allow Him to do so.
Yesterday's Prayer
Dear God of Moses and of Joshua, equip us to be leaders in our own circles of influence. As you promised Joshua, be with us whithersoever we go. Amen.
