Today's Bible Study
Possibly because I am a mother, I am especially touched by Bible stories about sick or dying children. Nothing strikes fear into my heart like the suspicion that one of my children or grandchildren is in peril.

When our son was about five years old, he often played outside with a friend. These two boys found more hiding places in our yard than I would have thought possible. When I was inside the house, I stepped outside often to check on the boys.

I went from calm to panic if I couldn’t find my son within one minute of leaving the house. There were times when I yelled for him so desperately that a neighbor took pity on me, stepped outside onto her porch and called to me, “He’s okay. I just saw him.”

You had better know if I had lived when Jesus was on earth and I had a sick child, I would have found a way to get that child to Jesus. I hope I would have sought Jesus in faith, but more than likely it would have been in terror.

I am certain Jairus did not approach Jesus calmly, but Jesus did not chide him for his fear. Though Jesus knew the end of the story, Jairus didn’t, and Jesus felt compassion for him.

Never be afraid to go to God with your deepest fears. He knows them anyway and loves you through your desperation. Trust God to listen, understand, and respond by bringing about what He knows to be best.
Today's Prayer
Jesus, I believe. Help my unbelief. I struggle to understand your ways and your wisdom sometimes. I grow fearful and full of dread. I give you today [name situation]. I ask for Your help. You love everyone who is involved in this matter. Please bring about healing or resolution and bless me with your peace. Amen.

Yesterday's Bible Study
I used to love playing hide-and-seek as a child. What fun it was to run and find a place to hide as a friend counted loudly. My heart raced as the countdown neared its end and I still had found no place to hide.

I also enjoyed the seeking, maybe even more than the hiding. I loved thinking about where my friends would hide and use my intuition to find them. I refused to stop looking for the hiders and call everyone in free.

God does not hide from us, but many times in Scripture we are urged to seek Him. Look at these “seeking” verses from Psalms:

Psalm 9:10—And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Psalm 14:2—The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

Psalm 63:1—O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

Do not be satisfied with only a cursory knowledge of God and His Word. Do not blindly accept the faith that was handed down to you by your parents or grandparents. Make your faith your own by studying the scriptures earnestly. Attend Bible studies and converse with your Christian friends about your faith. Pray for God’s guidance as you study. Ask for wisdom to discern the things you read.
Yesterday's Prayer
Father, help my soul long for You and seek You as a deer pants for water. Lead me to understanding as I read Your Word. Help me to apply the Bible to my life, and use me to bring others into Your grace. Amen.
