Afternoon Bible VerseThe mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. At a staggering 29,035 feet—5 1/2 miles high—the towering mountain has attracted more than 4,000 people who scaled it and successfully reached the top. The climb, from base to summit, takes about 40 days. More than 300 climbers have died trying to conquer this beast of a mountain.
It is one of God's most majestic creations. And even though it may seem unfathomable to us, everyone and everything on Earth answers to the Lord—including Mount Everest. Yes, God has the authority to tell mountains what to do, and they have to obey Him.
In our daily lives, we often forget how powerful God is. This afternoon's verse in Nahum reminds us that everything on the planet is under God's control. Yet so many times we underestimate His power. We wonder if He is capable of meeting our needs or keeping us safe. We forget that He can do anything. We project our abilities—or lack thereof—onto what God can or cannot do, and that is a flawed way of thinking.
We should be ever mindful of God's magnificence and power. If we were, it would transform our requests and how we pray to Him. If we trust in the Lord, remembering that He can do anything, we can approach Him with confidence in who He is.
The next time you pray, try to remember that the same God who can help you find your lost dog or heal you of a nasty cold is capable of anything. Put your faith in who He is… our Almighty God.
Heavenly Father, Sometimes I forget who you are. I have often made you into someone who might be able to take care of me when you are indeed able to do anything. What a privilege it is to serve you and to call you my Lord and Savior. Forgive me for the times when I have not had faith in you. Help me be aware of how big and powerful you are—someone who controls mountains! I am amazed by you and forever grateful for your love in my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explaination is that we were made for another world.

God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas but for scars.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible VerseGod is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. :
We were created to worship.
But what does worship mean, exactly? We may think about church, listening to sermons, singing hymns, and bowing our heads in prayer, and those are all part of worship. But the deeper meaning is an expression of love to our Savior that comes from our souls. We worship God because of who He is.
God is more amazing than anything we can comprehend. All of our praise and gratefulness should be directed toward Him.
Sometimes we allow our schedules and busy lives to determine how much time we have to spend worshiping God. But He wants us to stay in a continuous attitude of worship in everything we say and do. And He requires that it comes from a heart that worships Him in truth.
God desires worship that is pure and uncoerced. We shouldn't say, sing, or display worship that isn't sincere. God knows the real intention of our motives.
The amount that we worship God is often based on how much He means to us. When we think about all that God has done and His mercy toward us, praise should flow from our hearts. In the times that we take Him for granted, we are being ungrateful, and our worship reflects those feelings.
When we enter into eternity with Jesus, we will finally see the One we have worshipped. Until then, we will continue to praise Him while we are on Earth.
Heavenly Father, I'm so thankful for the many blessings in my life. I want my actions and attitudes to reflect a grateful heart. When I allow my schedule to become too busy, please gently remind me to spend time with you. I worship you because you are holy and good. You are an amazing God. Let me live a life that honors you in everything I say and do. In Jesus' name, amen.
