The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Today's Bible study

Psalm 145 is the last Psalm of David, and it is a song of praise to the Lord, extolling His goodness and love. This verse talks about the nearness of the Lord to those who know Him. This is both a sweet reminder and a stirring conviction.

It is sweet to know that regardless of where we are in the world, the Lord is with us. It is impossible for us to be somewhere that He isn't. We can call out to Him in any circumstance, through any pain, and through every joy, and He will listen. He is here to sustain us moment by moment.

The verse is also a conviction because sometimes we take the nearness of the Lord for granted. We never should, though because there was a time when He was unapproachable. Before Jesus, if people wanted to talk to the Lord, they would have to go to a temple and perform sacrifices. There was a place in the temple where only the highest priest could go once a year, the Holy of Holies, where the spirit of the Lord was. There was no other way for people to talk to Him.

But because of Jesus, we can call out to God anytime we want. We can share everything with Him, from our fears and disappointments to our highest hopes and dreams, and He will not turn us away. How often do you take advantage of this privilege? Do you live every moment fully aware of the presence of the Lord?

Of course, it's impossible to spend 24 hours a day in prayer, but that is not what we're asked to do. Instead, we are called to live our lives in a way that takes into account the nearness of the Lord. This means we honor Him with our thoughts, our work, and our actions. We respond to His nearness by living a life that pleases Him and is full of gratitude.

Dear Lord, I thank you for your nearness to me. I thank you for Jesus, who made it possible for me to know you intimately and deeply. I want to live a life that honors you and your name, Lord. Help me to be more and more like you each moment. In Jesus' name, amen.

If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explaination is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. :

In this chapter of Jeremiah, the Lord reassures the exiled Israelites that He has not forgotten about them. He reminds them that His love is everlasting and that He will always treat them with "lovingkindness." Today, we'll think about resting in confidence in the Lord even when circumstances are difficult.

The Israelites were exiled from their homeland. Everything that was familiar to them had been taken away, and they were struggling to feel the love of the Lord. Have you ever felt this way? Sometimes, difficult circumstances seem to pile up, making us tired and desperate to be reminded that the Lord sees us and cares about us. I know that I have felt this way before.

Jeremiah reminds the Israelites that even though they can't feel the Lord's love for them, they can trust in Him. The Lord's love is everlasting, which means there is no moment of our lives when we are not surrounded by His love. There are times in which His love is easier to feel and experience than others, but its presence remains the same.

Knowing that God's love is everlasting gives us hope and strength. It reminds us that we are not slaves to our circumstances. We can rise above them because our God and His love for us is beyond them. Knowing that the Lord's love for us is unchanging strengthens us to walk in Him even when things become very challenging.

Today, if you're facing something that's making your faith waver, read today's verse aloud. The Lord loves you with an everlasting love. He loves you more than you have ever known, and He is working everything out for the good. Cling to truths like these, and let yourself rest in His love.
