Afternoon Bible VersePeace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Add to FavoritesResearch has shown that the average inheritance in the United States is between $68,000 and $183,000. Research has shown that this inheritance is typically depleted in five years. With the money they inherit, people pay off their debts, plan for their future, and splurge on something for themselves.
When Jesus resurrected and returned to Heaven, He left an inheritance for his followers that many have not claimed.
John 14:27 says, "Peace I leave with you" Peace is our inheritance that Jesus left for us. It cannot be taken away from us, but we must accept it in order to enjoy its benefits. Yet even when we experience peace, our problems and difficulties don't disappear.
This authentic peace is entirely different from what the world considers to be peace. We don't have to live upset and worried—we can live in a place of rest. Whenever we feel overwhelmed or stressed out, we can ask God to calm our spirit and help us trust in Him.
Sometimes things happen that are scary and fill us with fear, but we can choose to live in God's peace and rebuke fear from having a place in our lives. He can bless us in the middle of every storm, and we can know that God will never leave us.
Often, we keep ourselves from experiencing God's peace because we haven't taken the time to present our burdens to Him. When we cast our cares upon Him, He will speak to our hearts and remind us in our spirit, "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
Heavenly Father, please be my strength today. Fill my mind with your peace and comfort even during the stormiest seasons of life. Help me learn to rest in you. I know you can use my obedience to draw others to you. Remove the fear that tries to invade my mind and soul. Push it out and replace it with your perfect peace. Thank you. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

We make thousands of decisions every day. Each choice results in an action or reaction. Every action has results and consequences. The choices we make are significant.
In this afternoon's verse, we read about the principle of sowing and reaping. Whatever we plant will grow and produce a crop. Our choices are the seeds we plant, and the consequences are what we reap. If we sow seeds of peace, then we will reap peace. If we sow discord, then we will reap conflict.
Farming requires education and training. In order to have a successful crop, farmers discover which types of seeds grow the best at different times of the year. They study soil and learn how much water is required for plants to grow. In all that they do to make their farms productive, farmers are intentional. Just as a farmer plans to produce the best crops, we should be intentional about the seeds we plant in our lives.
Everyone makes choices they regret. We plant bad seeds, or we plant good seeds but don't encourage them to grow. It's part of growing and maturing in our faith. We will reap the consequences of our decisions, but God can give us grace during those times to endure and then move forward.
Our walk with God consists of obstacles that are sometimes a result of our actions, but they provide an opportunity to plant better seeds in the future.
Lord, I'm so grateful for your wisdom. You have given me the ability to grow and become more like you. When I fail or miss the mark of living a holy life, please help me see the opportunity to learn how to be more obedient. I want to reap the benefits of living a life of service to you, my Lord, and Savior. In Jesus' name, amen.
