In this morning's verse, King David writes about the beauty of unity among people. When they work together in unity, they do not have strife amongst themselves, but instead are able to enjoy their relationships and serve the Lord together.

Unity amongst people is a testimony to the power of the Lord in our lives. It is not very common; often, divisive politics, racism, class differences, and sins like pride and selfishness get in the way of unity. However, when diverse people are truly unified, it shows the power of the Lord to bring people together with a common mission: sharing the love of the Lord with each other. It shows that God can truly change our hearts.

Unity can be challenging because it requires that we, to some degree, die to ourselves. This means we no longer try to stand up for ourselves in everything, but instead, are willing to let the Lord take care of things. For example, for the sake of unity, we might have to forgive someone when we don't want to. We might have to be more giving or more loving or kinder than we really want to be. Unity requires sacrifice and a strong focus on the Lord above all else.

However, the Lord will give us the strength and ability to be in unity with others. When it seems impossible for us to have cordial relations with another person, He will put the right words in our mouths. He will help us be instruments of unity, showing us His love and how to love other people when we don't even know where to begin. When we remain in communion with Him, He will help us be like Him, promoting unity among His people.

Ask the Lord if there are any relationships in your life that you could help restore. Is there anything you can do to be an instrument of unity among your family, friends, and church? If the Lord puts someone on your heart, remember to spend time praying for them before you do anything and then obey with a cheerful heart. It is pleasant to be in unity, and, through the Lord, it is possible.

Today's Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to be in unity in all my relationships. Please help me be willing to be the one to go the extra mile so that we can be in unity. Thank you for the great unifier that is Jesus, who made it possible for me to have a relationship with you. In Jesus' name, amen.

In this verse from the prophet Habakkuk, we learn how the Lord is our everlasting strength. Just before this verse, Habakkuk mentioned a number of difficulties, but he quickly made up his mind to rejoice in the Lord. We do not need anything but the Lord to sustain in all of our days; we can rest in His goodness and confidence forever.

What does it mean to have strength in the Lord? When we know Him, we can have confidence that He is with us and working for our good—always. He is ordering the universe and our lives; nothing will change the fact that He is in control of everything. Even if our circumstances seem to contradict this, as Habakkuk's did, we can remember eternal truths about the Lord that transcend our temporary feelings and situations.

When we have strength in the Lord, we are able to walk in confident obedience to His Word. We will be able to stand up to temptation, say no to sin, and remain faithful and pure before Him. His strength will help us remain encouraged even in times of difficulty because we'll know that we are secure in Him forever. His strength sustains us, giving us wisdom and peace in good times and bad.

The Lord is quick to give us strength if we feel like we are running on empty. His strength comes to us through various forms, including spiritual disciplines like reading His Word, prayer, and worship. At other times, He strengthens us through the encouragement of others. We can have confidence that when we call out to God, He will answer us and give us strength.

Today, if you are in need of strength, meditate on this verse from Habakkuk. The Lord promises to give us the strength that we need to serve Him well and honor Him. When we seek after Him and His strength, He will give us all that we need.

Yesterday's Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you so much for the strength that can only come from you. You are everything that I will ever need. Help me to share your love with other people and lean into your strength as I do. In Jesus' name, amen.
