Today's Bible VerseO my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee.
Add to Favorites Share with FriendIn this verse from Psalm 16, David writes that he has no good apart from the Lord. He recognizes that all the blessings in his life are from Him and there is no one who can compare to Him. The Lord is David's eternal source of joy and pleasure, and throughout this entire Psalm, David praises God for His goodness.
We, like David, are recipients of the amazing goodness of the Lord. Think for a minute about some of the many blessings that He has given you; allow yourself to be encouraged that the Lord chose to give you those blessings. When you feel discouraged, remember that list, which is evidence of the Lord's kindness to you.
Far beyond all of our many blessings on Earth, we see the Lord's goodness in the Gospel. He allowed Jesus to die a brutal and painful death at the hands of those He came to save. Jesus made it possible for us to approach the Lord because all our sins had been forgiven. This makes it possible for us to have the greatest gift that any of us could ever have: a relationship with the Lord.
There is nothing more satisfying, sweeter, exciting, or delightful than a relationship with the living God. Knowing Him is the greatest adventure that any human could ever have—and it doesn't require any travel!
When we begin to cultivate our relationship with the Lord, He meets us right where we are and displays His goodness to us. He speaks to us through His word, corrects us with His loving hand, and guides us as we pray and serve Him. Nothing will stand in between our relationship with the Lord because Jesus has cleared the way. He loves us and walks with us on a day-to-day basis, showering us with His goodness.
Today, if you are having trouble believing that the Lord is good, think about this verse. Everything that is good in your life is evidence of the Lord's goodness. Take a moment to remember the many blessings that He has given you, and ask Him to open your eyes to His love in a new way. He will meet you right where you are, filling you with knowledge of His love for you.
Dear Lord, thank you for your sweet goodness. You are so kind to me. Please help me remember your many blessings when I feel discouraged. I love you, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

In this verse from Proverbs, we learn that those who find the Lord find life and His favor. It reminds us of all the many blessings that we, as Christians, are privy to. We have communion with Him, can pray to Him, and get to enjoy His presence on a daily basis. Today, we'll meditate on these realities so we don't take them for granted.
What does it mean for us to find life in the Lord? There are many different ways to interpret it, with the most obvious being the gift of eternal life with Christ. Instead of living forever apart from the Lord, we get to join Him in Heaven, enjoying His goodness and love forever. We also have life today because we are dead to sin—we have the ability to resist temptation and walk in obedience to the Lord.
Finally, finding life in the Lord means we can walk in hope. Instead of trying to fill ourselves up or make ourselves whole, we can walk in the sweet truth that the Lord cares for us more than we could ever care for ourselves.
Also, when we walk with the Lord, we obtain His favor. This means He will work everything for the good in our lives; no pain or struggle that we experience will prevent us from growing spiritually or from experiencing the Lord's goodness. We do not have to be afraid—ever—that the Lord has forgotten about us. He sees us and is favoring us always. He seeks and blesses those who seek Him.
It is important to remember that the greatest blessing in the Christian life is intimacy with God. There is nothing like the nearness of God, and when we cling to His promises and truths, we remind ourselves that He is never far away. His nearness to us will be constant and sure. This gives us the confidence to obey Him even when it's difficult and encourages us to remain strong in Him.
Today, if you feel discouraged or disheartened, cling to the truth that you have life in Jesus. He offers true life in Him that cannot compare to any amount of money or any human relationship. His love for you is perfect, and He is favoring you today simply because He calls you His own.
Dear Lord, thank you for your favor in my life. Thank you for being so good to me and for showing me favor. Help me to remember that you are never far away. I love you Lord; help me to become more and more like you each day. In Jesus' name, amen.
