Afternoon Bible VerseNow the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.
Add to Favorites Share with FriendChristianity isn't about having vast knowledge of genealogies and traditions in the Bible. Jesus never said that people would know we are Christians by our doctrine, preaching, or theology. Our Christian maturity isn't based on our intelligence, age, or how long we've been saved. It's not even measured by how much we pray or read the Bible. While these are important disciplines that help our faith grow and stay strong, the true test of our faith is how much we love or show charity to each other. It's essential to move toward the goal of loving others more. We need to be careful not to focus so much on the knowledge of God and the Bible that we forget to apply His truths to our lives. We must live out our faith in how we treat others.
Genuine and whole-hearted love comes from a pure faith in God. We become more loving by understanding how much God loves us. The apostle Paul knew how important it was to be rooted and established in God's love. The more we open our lives to receiving love and allowing others to love, the more our love for God will grow and overflow to those around us.
Afternoon PrayerDear Lord, help me do what is good and acceptable to you. May I learn to love others out of a pure heart. I want to have a better understanding of your love so that it affects how I treat other people. I desire to speak words that honor you. Thank you for helping me mature in my faith and become more like you. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas but for scars.
-Elbert Hubbard
The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

In the New Testament we read about Thomas, one of Jesus' disciples. Over time, he has become known as Doubting Thomas for his reaction to Jesus' resurrection.
Thomas wasn't with the other disciples when they saw Jesus after He had come back to life. He heard secondhand when the other disciples shared with him that they had seen the Lord.
Thomas reacted with doubt, asserting that he would believe it when he saw Jesus himself. Eight days later, Jesus appeared to them and showed Thomas His hands and side that had previously been wounded at the time of His death.
Jesus lovingly told a repentant Thomas not to remain faithless, but to believe. (John 20:27)
We read a similar encouragement in this afternoon's verse when Jesus encountered a man who was struggling to have faith. The man replied by asking Jesus to help His unbelief.
God knows how badly we need His help to have strong faith in Him. Doubt is something that all of us struggle with at some stage in life. The first step in combating doubt is asking God to help our unbelief. It can be challenging to trust God when everything seems to be crumbling around us.
But we can be assured that God knows everything that is happening, and we can put all our faith in Him.
Jesus, I choose to believe in you. Often, I struggle to have faith because I can't see what you're doing. But I trust in you, and I know you can give me the confidence and ability to believe. Please take away the doubt and worry in my mind, Jesus, and help me trust you to do the impossible. In your name, amen.
