Afternoon Bible VerseThe Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Add to Favorites Share with FriendChildren have been playing the game "Follow the Leader" for decades. The idea is that everyone follows as the leader walks and wiggles, stops and then starts again, twirls and then stands still as a stone. Sometimes the leader moves in an entirely unexpected way. If the followers aren't paying attention, they can get left behind.
In Psalm 23, King David describes God as our shepherd. As we follow Him, we have everything we need by trusting in the Lord's provision. Just as a shepherd watches over his sheep, the Lord cares for us. He anticipates our needs before we realize we need anything. He keeps us safe in times of danger.
As we follow our Leader, there are invariably times when we wonder, "God, why did you lead me here?" When we experience hardships, it can be tempting to pull away. We might think that God has led us down the wrong path. But these are the times when He can teach us to develop a stronger dependence on Him. God wants us to know that whether He leads us through valleys or mountaintop paths, we can trust Him.
Another critical point in this verse is that God wants us to experience times of rest. There is great value in taking time to allow the Lord to restore our hearts and minds for whatever comes next. We can trust our Good Shepherd to direct us to still waters where we are safe and cared for by Him. He will always take us on a path that leads us closer to Him.
God, I want to follow you, even when I don't know where you are leading me. Life can be so busy, and sometimes I don't take care of my body and soul. Make me aware of the times I allow the concerns of the world to cloud my vision of you. Tell me when I need to rest and help me listen. Thank you for providing peace in my heart and mind. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Everyone has those days; days when nothing seems to go right.
From the time we rise until we go to bed at night, we encounter a series of trials and tests. It can be difficult not to allow our fears and doubts to lead us, especially when it seems like everything is spinning out of control.
Family issues, relationship woes, illnesses, and work-related problems can leave us feeling overwhelmed. When everything seems to pile on us, it can be challenging to know where to start. As long as we are tirelessly devising our plans and attempting to figure out what to do, we are depriving ourselves of what God has in store for us. His ways are always better than anything we come up with.
Our daily plans should be placed in God's hands and left there. Then, we should follow the wisdom in Proverbs 16:9 and allow the Lord to direct our steps. This action takes the pressure off ourselves and strengthens our dependence on God. As we meet each situation, we can have the assurance that God is with us.
When we allow God to direct our steps, and we succeed, then only He can get the glory. And with God leading us, we will not fail. Things may not always turn out exactly as we think they should have, but we can have peace in knowing that God's ultimate plan is always to lead us closer to Him.
Dear Lord, there are times when I don't know which way to go or what to do next. I struggle between wanting my way and leaning on you to direct me. I know you hold the answers to every question in my life. Help me to trust you when I don't know what's coming next. From the moment I wake up until I go to bed at night, thank you for lovingly leading me. In Jesus' name, amen.
