Afternoon Bible VerseAnd ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Add to Favorites Share with FriendThere is nothing more frustrating than preparing to walk out of the house and then realizing you have lost your keys. You search everywhere, even places that you wouldn't have expected them to be because you're desperate. When you find them you have instant relief!
In Jeremiah, we read about a type of desperation in our relationship with God. Although we don't have assurances that we will find our keys or other items we are looking for in life, when we seek after God, Jeremiah 29:13 says we will find Him. There is a caveat, however; we must seek God with all of our hearts.
When we are desperate to find our keys, we look frantically everywhere. We immediately begin thinking, "What will I do?" "What's going to happen if I don't find them?" "Why did I lose them in the first place?" We think those panicked thoughts because we need to have our keys—it's a necessity.
Imagine if we transferred that level of desperation into our walk with the Lord. What would we do without the Lord? It should cause us to seek God like everything in our lives depends on finding Him, because it does.
When we seek after God with all of our hearts, we find everything we need and will ever need. He will never leave us, and He longs for a relationship with us. Seek God and His ways, and you will always find Him.
Dear Lord, I want to seek you with all of my heart. I know that the knowledge and wisdom you want to give me isn't always instantly available. There is so much that you reveal to me through your Word and by spending time with you in prayer. Help me prioritize my life to allow for those times when you speak to me. Teach me to listen and wait for your voice. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible VerseCreate in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. :

Fact: Humans don't always act right. And we see it all around us: road rage, greed, lust, pride; the list goes on and on. People allow emotions to control their (our) actions and, thus, have to suffer the consequences.
After we come to Christ, we accept His grace and receive a new life. But if we aren't careful, we can slip back into our old way of living. In order to remain close to God, and push away from our old life, our heart's cry should be to become more like Christ.
In Psalm 51, King David tells us about a process that takes place in our hearts. This is part of a prayer, a cry to God, in which he says, "create in me a clean heart." People who create things go through a series of steps, but only God can create something out of nothing. Yet in this Psalm, David is asking God to form a clean heart inside him because it's a process.
David also asks the Lord to "renew a right spirit" within him. Without God working in our lives, we don't always do what is right. We need God to change our hearts to make us more like Him—but not just leave us there. We also need God to continuously renew us and make us right in His sight.
God, I am incapable of having a clean heart without your help. I don't always act right. I know that sin can't stand in your sight because you are pure and holy. I can't control the desire to sin without your strength in my life. Thank you for showing mercy to me when I fall short of your perfection, and help me to become more like you. In Jesus' name, amen.
