Today's Bible VerseBlessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
Add to Favorites Share with FriendIn today's verse, the Lord is speaking to the prophet Jeremiah, saying that those who trust and hope in Him will be blessed. Let's consider the context of this verse and think about how it affects the way that we live today.
While this might seem simple on the surface, the context of the verse highlights the importance of choosing to trust and hope in the Lord. God had just told Jeremiah that the kingdom of Judah would be destroyed. Because Judah was not faithful and did not trust in God alone, the kingdom fell. God wanted the kingdom's trust; when its members rejected Him, the Lord allowed the kingdom to be destroyed.
Today, we have many reasons to trust the Lord. Perhaps the greatest of these is the incredible display of love for us that Jesus showed when he died on the cross. Jesus lived a perfect life, completely blameless, but was willing to endure a painful death so we could be saved. He did this for one reason: because He loved us. There is no question that we can trust someone who loves us that much.
As the verse indicates, we are blessed when we trust in the Lord. Because He has proven himself faithful through Jesus, we know that he will fulfill His many promises about our own future: In Revelation 21:4, we learn that He will wipe every tear from our eyes. In Galatians 6:8, we read about our assurance of eternal life. In 2 Timothy 2:11, we're told that we will live with Jesus forever. We can cling to these and other promises from God even when it seems like our own lives are falling apart. They are anchored not in this world, but in the Word of a God who is always faithful.
If you are struggling right now, whatever may be troubling you, set your heart and mind on trusting the Lord. The greatest blessing that trusting Him offers is peace… a steady anchor in an ocean of constant uncertainty. This is exactly what Jesus offers to those who trust Him.
Dear Lord, I want the peace that can only come from trusting and hoping in you. Help me to cling to your promises and to set my hopes in you above all else. I love you, Lord, and I thank you for being a perfect and faithful savior. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

Yesterday's Bible VerseMy soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word. :

In this morning's Psalm, we get a powerful reflection on the Word of God. The psalmist writes that when his soul is heavy, he knows the Lord's Word will strengthen him. Let's think about what this verse means and how it applies to our lives today.
Have you ever felt like your soul was heavy? Most people do at certain times of their lives, such as when they are suffering from grief or feeling weary and stressed from too many obligations. As Christians, we have a tool to help us strengthen our own souls during those difficult times. That tool is God's Word… and it can help us get through anything that life throws our way.
The Bible is our source of strength every day, including when we're feeling desperate. It is called the living Word for a reason—it serves as a guide for how we live each day. This is one of the reasons why it is so essential for us to remain in the Word. Otherwise, we'll miss out on all the benefits it gives us!
The Word has the power to strengthen us because it points us to the Lord. When we think about who the Lord is, we are automatically strengthened. He is faithful, trustworthy, all-powerful, full of grace, kind, and filled with love for His children. Being in the Word reminds us that we do not have to live life by ourselves or even in our own strength. Rather, we can live resting in God's grace, filled with the strength and joy that He offers us.
If you find your soul heavy on a regular basis, think about how much time you spend in the Word. Ask yourself if you might go deeper in the Bible and develop a greater understanding of it. Develop a habit of turning to Jesus again and again, over and over, until your first response to weariness is to go before Him and ask Him to help you. He will answer you and He will give you strength.
Dear Lord, thank you so much for the gift of yourself and your Word. Thank you for being so good, for loving us so much, and for caring about your children, even when we're tired and weary. Strengthen us, Jesus, and fill us with your love. In your name, amen.
