Our physical health is not that much different from our spiritual health. If we are consistent with or limit what we consume, it affects our overall well-being. It's not difficult to understand the importance of nourishment.

Some people invest large amounts of money in improving their physical appearance and ensuring that their bodies are in optimum health. In our spiritual lives, however, we are not always so careful about tending to the nourishment of our souls.

In John 10:10, Jesus warns of a "thief" whose intent is to rob us of the abundant life God offers. When we neglect reading the Word, spending time with God, and growing in our relationship with Him, we are allowing the enemy to destroy us.

There is a visible contrast in this Scripture between the Good Shepherd, Jesus, and our enemy, the devil. Jesus came to bring us abundant life with purpose and meaning. The devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy us.

If we are in Christ, the devil cannot fulfill his plan … but that doesn't mean he won't try. He can attempt to steal our joy and peace and capitalize on our worries and stress. When our eyes turn from Jesus and focus on our problems, we might find ourselves in a place where we become discouraged.

Jesus is the only one who can provide an abundant life full of joy and peace. Will you accept this life today?

Afternoon Prayer

Dear God, thank you for this abundant life of joy and peace that you have given to me. Please protect my heart and mind from the attacks of the enemy. Help me to keep my eyes on you. Put a desire in me to study your Word so that I can arm myself against the enemy's attacks. Thank you for sustaining me. In Jesus' name, amen.

If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas but for scars.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Romans 12:1 (KJV)

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.:

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible study

In Romans 12:1, the Apostle Paul reminds us of the Old Testament practice of offering sacrifices. A sacrifice was a slaughtered animal that people would offer to cover their sins. It was an act of worship.

During Passover, there were very specific instructions regarding the sacrificial lamb. It was to be a first-born male without any blemishes or imperfections.

Fast-forward to the New Testament: Jesus is the perfect Lamb of God who provided the ultimate sacrifice and salvation to all who will receive it. He was God's only perfect Son without any imperfections.

So, how can we present our bodies as a living sacrifice? We give our all, putting aside our worldly desires, and living to please God instead of ourselves.

Allowing God to transform us from the inside out by changing the way we think is an act of worship.

Worship looks much different now compared with Old Testament times. Instead of trying to find the perfect, spotless lamb, God gave us Jesus.

We have God's Word to show us how to live and His Spirit to direct us every day. When we reflect on the once-and-for-all sacrifice, Jesus, our heart responds in worship and adoration.

Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer

God, thank you for giving your only Son, the perfect lamb, to cover my sin. Your amazing love is overwhelming to me. I want to worship you with my whole life, offering myself as a living sacrifice. Forgive me for the times when I forget to acknowledge your faithfulness in my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
