Most of us have heard the story of Jesus' death so many times that we can forget the magnitude of what He suffered. Our Savior endured cruel and painful treatment and still willingly gave up His life.

Religious leaders mocked him. They had declared that He was a false prophet and were happy to see Him suffer a criminal's death. What they did not realize was that 700 years earlier, the prophet Isaiah had predicted Jesus' suffering. In Isaiah 53, we come to understand that this wasn't a random event—it was planned by God before the foundations for the earth.

Through His death and resurrection, Jesus paid the full price for our sin and overcame death forever. Not only did His stripes heal our bodies, but also our souls. He was wounded for our transgressions, and He was bruised for our iniquities. He took on the full weight of sin for us.

Even though He knew no sin, His love for us while we were sinners compelled Him to atone for our sins. His healing extends to our physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.

As we submit to God in the way that Jesus did, we will one day experience total healing. It is never too late to receive God's forgiveness. He made provision for us long before we were ever born. His mercy endures forever.

Afternoon Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the priceless gift of Jesus. My guilt has been exchanged for your perfect peace. I have been healed. I am released from the bondage of sin and am now a child of God. I am eternally grateful for Jesus' sacrifice for me. In His name, amen.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible study

Our physical health is not that much different from our spiritual health. If we are consistent with or limit what we consume, it affects our overall well-being. It's not difficult to understand the importance of nourishment.

Some people invest large amounts of money in improving their physical appearance and ensuring that their bodies are in optimum health. In our spiritual lives, however, we are not always so careful about tending to the nourishment of our souls.

In John 10:10, Jesus warns of a "thief" whose intent is to rob us of the abundant life God offers. When we neglect reading the Word, spending time with God, and growing in our relationship with Him, we are allowing the enemy to destroy us.

There is a visible contrast in this Scripture between the Good Shepherd, Jesus, and our enemy, the devil. Jesus came to bring us abundant life with purpose and meaning. The devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy us.

If we are in Christ, the devil cannot fulfill his plan … but that doesn't mean he won't try. He can attempt to steal our joy and peace and capitalize on our worries and stress. When our eyes turn from Jesus and focus on our problems, we might find ourselves in a place where we become discouraged.

Jesus is the only one who can provide an abundant life full of joy and peace. Will you accept this life today?

Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer

Dear God, thank you for this abundant life of joy and peace that you have given to me. Please protect my heart and mind from the attacks of the enemy. Help me to keep my eyes on you. Put a desire in me to study your Word so that I can arm myself against the enemy's attacks. Thank you for sustaining me. In Jesus' name, amen.
