Afternoon Bible Verse
Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Afternoon Bible study

Every week, people and churches around the world gather together in rooms, buildings, storefronts, and many other places, for the opportunity to have fellowship together. We gather as people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, and histories to join together with one purpose, and that is to collectively worship the one true God of the universe.

Part of that time is spent in worship through song and the ministry of God's Word. The writer of Hebrews tells us that we should also exhort one another as well.

Exhorting, which means to encourage one another, was extremely important to the first-century church. They not only faced extreme persecution for their beliefs but often were shunned by family and friends who did not share their beliefs.

Because many believers we read about in the Bible came from other religions or beliefs of the time and area, they often worshiped in private and bravely sought out other believers who shared in their new faith in Christ.

Today, the call to encourage each other is no less important than it was in New Testament times. And though most of us don't face the type of persecution as people did in the first century, for Christians in the 21st century, encouraging others is just as important as sharing our faith.

The Church is called to encourage in faith and life, and it all begins with us.

Afternoon Prayer

Father God, I pray that, through your Holy Spirit, I would have a deeper desire to actively encourage your people who are made in your image. Lead me with the words to say so that I would show not our wisdom and discernment, but yours. Thank you for placing me in a group of believers that I can grow with. I'm grateful. In Jesus' name, amen.

If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas but for scars.

-Elbert Hubbard

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Verse
Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.:

What began as an accident in 1942, ended up becoming an amazingly useful invention.

Cyanoacrylate was initially developed as a durable plastic for gun sights during World War II. But the substance was found to be way too sticky, so it was abandoned because it didn't work for the project.

Thankfully, several years later, a practical commercial use was actually found for the extra-strength adhesive … and Super Glue was born. Television commercials and print ads showed how strong it was by trying unsuccessfully to pull two large objects apart that had been bonded with Super Glue.

Today, there are other extra-strong glues available, and they do work pretty well. But no matter how strong of a glue or adhesive is created, even if it's pronounced to be industrial strength, it can't even compare to how strong our connection is to God. Nothing can separate us from Him.

This afternoon's verse goes to extreme lengths to tell us that nothing could ever keep us from being loved by God. His love is infinite. That is why we can live with an assurance that no matter what we do, He has always loved us and will continue to love us from now through eternity.

Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer

Lord, sometimes I allow fear and doubt to separate me from feeling your love. I know that you love me and you are always there for me. Give me faith to know that you will never leave me. Help me demonstrate your love to everyone around me. In Jesus' name, amen.
