Afternoon Bible VerseHear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.
Add to Favorites Share with FriendIn Deuteronomy, Moses has led the Israelites across the Jordan River, and they are preparing to enter the Promised Land. He reminds them, as he had many times before, that God has taken care of them. God rescued the Israelites from Egypt and provided for them in the wilderness. He made a covenant with them at Mount Sinai and gave the people His law. Now, Moses tells them again about the characteristics of God—He is like none other. He is indivisible. He is the one true God. There were multiple times when the Israelites turned away from God and chose to worship other gods. But Moses tells them that they are to love God and only Him. Nothing is out of His sight.
We can learn from the Israelites. As we reflect on our salvation, it's important to remember that we should be devoted to God with our whole lives. He sees every part of our life and deserves all of our love from our hearts. God can use us to lead others like He used Moses to lead the people of Israel. God gave him the strength to deliver His Word, even when the people didn't want to hear it. We should seek God's guidance every day, so we remain close to Him for all the days of our lives.
Afternoon PrayerDear Lord, I recognize that you are the one true God. Thank you for being with me and guiding me with your loving hand. Even in the times I have strayed, you are still merciful to me. I love you today, and I desire to remain faithful all the days of my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

It can be challenging to stay encouraged when it seems like you can't win in life. This is especially true when you feel like a failure at meeting your own expectations. Maybe you wish you were further along in your relationship with God. Or you thought your life would turn out differently than it has.
Philippians 1:6 is an encouragement during those times. It reminds us that when God began working in your life, He started the process of making us more like Him. And the good news is, He will continue to change us and help us to grow throughout our entire lives.
When we make mistakes, the Lord is ready to wrap us in His grace and help us get back on our feet again. If we fall short, then we know He is there to walk beside us and give us everything we need. We can rest, knowing that God will never give up on us. He is a loving Father to His children. Instead of feeling frustrated with our shortcomings, we can look for opportunities to grow and mature. We can be thankful that God is with us as we learn how to become more like Him.
Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I pray that you would renew my confidence in you. Help me to view my life the way you see me. When I get discouraged, remind me that your grace covers my failures. Thank you for not only beginning the work on me, but also finishing it. In Jesus' name, amen.
